The properly equipped tattoo studio will use biohazard containers for objects that have come into contact with blood or bodily fluids, sharps containers for old needles, and an autoclave for sterilizing tools.^[39] Certain jurisdictions also require studios by law to have a sink in the work area supplied with both hot and cold water.
Proper hygiene requires a body modification artist to wash his or her hands before starting to prepare a client for the stencil, between clients, and at any other time where cross contamination can occur. The use of single use disposable gloves is also mandatory. Also, disposable gloves should be taken off after each stage of tattooing. The same gloves should not be used to clean the tattoo station, tattoo the client, or clean the tattoo; the tattoo artist should change their disposable gloves at each stage. In some states and countries it is illegal to tattoo a minor even with parental consent, and (except in the case of medical tattoos) it is forbidden to tattoo impaired persons, people with contraindicated skin conditions, those who are pregnant or nursing, those incapable of consent due to mental incapacity or those under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Before the tattooing begins the client is asked to approve the final position of the applied stencil. After approval is given the artist will open new, sterile needle packages in front of the client, and always use new, sterile or sterile disposable instruments and supplies, and fresh ink for each session (loaded into disposable ink caps which are discarded after each client). Also, all areas which may be touched with contaminated gloves will be wrapped in clear plastic to prevent cross-contamination. Equipment that cannot be autoclaved (such as counter tops, machines, and furniture) will be wiped with an approved disinfectant.^[40]
Membership in professional organizations, or certificates of appreciation/achievement, generally helps artists to be aware of the latest trends. However, many of the most notable tattooists do not belong to any association. While specific requirements to become a tattooist vary between jurisdictions, many mandate only formal training in bloodborne pathogens, and cross contamination. The local department of health regulates tattoo studios in many jurisdictions.
For example, according to the health departments in Oregon and Hawaii, tattoo artists in these states are required to take and pass a test ascertaining their knowledge of health and safety precautions, as well as the current state regulations. Performing a tattoo in Oregon state without a proper and current license or in an unlicensed facility is a felony offense.^[41] Tattooing was legalized in New York City in 1997,^[42] and in Massachusetts and Oklahoma between 2002 and 2006.

TLC is cleaning house this week.

First, the network announced it canceled Kate Plus 8. Now it says it will be bidding farewell to another reality star after this season: Kat Von D.

"TLC has decided that the current season of LA Ink will be its last. The network is proud of what the series accomplished in four seasons, following Kat Von D's journey as an artist from Miami to Los Angeles,” TLC said in a statement.

This has been a tough year for Kat Von D, with her house burning down, her cat dying, and her engagement to Jesse James getting called off.

The fourth season showcased Kat's relationship with Jesse James and their wedding plans, making things even more bittersweet for the artiste.

In the season premiere, the 29-year-old reality got a tattoo of Jesse James’ face. That was probably not a good sign as far as the future goes.

Tattoo Artists outraged. BOYCOTT the TLC network

I am proud of our tattoo industry and the way true talent and artistry brought to the game and changing the stereotypes from hookers sailors and bikers.

It has been alot of morals that have been placed into our industry to show the world that tattoos dont make a person bad its the heart.

What is on our skin does not make us bad people.

Ok so Reality tattoo shows got hot for a minute then they filled all the slow boring times with juiced up drama to try to play into the "outcasts" stereotype.

Many shows try to keep the negativity going and use us as puppets to show the world," look they are wierd and trouble." When all along it is thier ideas to add the dirt and trash.

So now that I have explained the effects of these reality shows there up pops the ugliest monster .

Tattoo School is a new show airing on TLC July 14, 2011 at 9pm. Which teaches people to Tattoo in 2 weeks. This is a Disgrace, Insult and Insane idea to promote. The only way to get TLC to listen to Us Artist and Collectors views is to Unite by Boycotting the Show and Any Advertisers of the Show. Hitting their pocket books is what they Hear Loud and Clear!

Tattoo artists Helping out those in Japan

I know that helping people in a crisis is very moving and makes us feel like we are trying to be at peace on a global scale ...If something like this happened in the Middle east Im not sure the reaction would be the same.
JUST LIKE ART,Humanity and Empathy is universal as we were all created the same .Radicals and power freaks make war and create division.
The Bible says let there be no division among you..We are all human and I feel for the tattooers there that have been hurt by this.
Is there a way to help our brother native tattoo artists and not just donate to a organization that has to use some of the proceeds to pay themselves or workers,distributors and the likes....I hope people can stop creating war and let us all enjoy what gift we have here on earth.
I am amazed at the response on this group and Im sure it helps some but mainly I hope it will teach us about caring for one another...Money spent on war can be used to help things like this and the sick,hungry and poor.
I was thinking of going a full month and all tattoos that are japanese influenced ,use a percentage of that for a month and donate it to artists there that might need it personally.
So any Tattoo Studios in Japan that have been destroyed can you please let me know?
